Mimecast partnered with Erland to fit-out 9,500sf of previously vacant space on the second floor of their occupied headquarters in Lexington, MA. The space was completely gutted and transformed to promote culture and innovation. It was also built to support the company’s growing IT and Engineering departments. Over the course of 11-weeks, Erland completed two phases of work. The first phase consisted of fitting-out 2,800sf for the IT department including the creation of a “Smart Bar” where employees can receive help when having technical setbacks. This help desk design is a testpilot for Mimecast who plans to roll the collaborative workspace out across their satellite locations. The second phase consisted of fittingout the remaining space for the Engineering department. This included transforming the original lobby area into a secure entrance, creating video conferencing nooks, a production “green screen” room, and collaborative meeting space. The expanded area also features a shared garden wall. It was crucial to mitigate disruption to the company’s ongoing operations for the duration of the project. Temporary partitions and new means of egress were constructed to ensure employee safety.
