Center for the Arts at St. Mark's School

Erland was Construction Manager for this new multi-purpose arts center, which features a 450-seat concert hall designed for outstanding acoustics. Site preparation involved demolition of an existing structure that was adjacent to an operating classroom building. Extensive relocation of utility lines was required in the early stages of the project. The deep basement was excavated to house the oversized air handing units specified to minimize noise from the HVAC system. Creative solutions allowed for construction of the exceptionally high, load-bearing masonry walls through the coldest months of the winter. The construction schedule, constrained by the requirements of the academic year and the summer use of the school’s facilities, was successfully met.
