EMD Serono selected Erland and Ellenzweig to convert 2,694sf of existing office space into a stateof-the-art lab as part of their efforts to increase the company’s R&D capabilities. The program included a complete fit-out of lab casework, new mechanical systems and ductwork, as well as additional overhead distribution for electrical and specialty gas services. All work was completed on night shift to mitigate disruption to EMD Serono’s ongoing operations. Safety was a major component of this project given that the renovated space is adjacent to an active corridor with constant foot traffic. All project team members were required to participate in Erland’s safety program as well as an EMD Serono safety training. Additionally, daily deliveries and overall logistical management of the construction sequence for specialty gas and system installations and tieins were closely coordinated with the EMD Serono facilities team to maintain this fast-paced environment.
