Erland Construction Completes The Barn Family Shoe Store

Newton, Mass. - Erland Construction recently completed renovating 8,200 square feet of commercial space for The Barn Family Shoe Store in Newton, Mass. The Barn, a retail fixture since 1948, will be the first locally owned business with a lease at TRIO (Washington Place).

The Barn is a family owned and operated shoe store for men, women, and children. At its new location, the award-winning shoe store will continue to carry best-selling brands of high-quality footwear and casual apparel with the added convenience of housing the merchandise under one roof.

“It has been a great experience working so closely with Erland on this project”, said Brendan Carrigan, Store Manager of The Barn Family Shoe Store. “We were ready to start the renovation in the spring, but the pandemic hit and delayed our initial plans. We were one of the many local businesses that had to temporarily shut our doors during the statewide stay-at-home-order. Luckily, we received an outpouring of support from our community and Erland and can now enjoy our brand new location while safely serving our patrons.”

The Barn was previously located at 25 Kempton Place and has moved into Mark Development’s new mixed-used development, TRIO. This is Mark Development’s second project with Erland.

The new storefront has a main entrance on Walnut Street with a second entrance into TRIO’s interior courtyard with ample parking for customers. In addition to the dual entryways, the retail space has been outfitted with new flooring, lighting, millwork, interior storefront vestibules, and a new HVAC system.
