Erland Construction Completes Two Impactful Projects for Springfield College Athletics

Springfield, MA – Erland Construction is proud to announce the successful completion of two projects for Springfield College: the Bugbee Family Pavilion and the renovation of Kresge Gymnasium. Both projects underscore the college's commitment to enhancing its athletic facilities and honoring its legacy.

The first project, the Bugbee Family Pavilion, is a 2,000-square-foot multi-use facility located alongside Stagg Field. Designed in collaboration with Amenta Emma Architects, this distinctive pavilion celebrates the enduring contributions of Coach Keith Bugbee, G’84, and his family to the men’s lacrosse program. Positioned at the north end of the home bleachers, the pavilion reflects the Bugbee family's values of simplicity, strength, and traditional New England charm. Its durable construction includes metal panel siding, a storefront armor wall glazing system, and vented double-paned glass. Inside, a donor wall honors the Bugbee family's legacy, while "Lindsay's Lookout," an elevated viewing platform, stands as a tribute to Coach Bugbee’s daughter.

The second project is the Kresge Gymnasium renovation, a 7,965-square-foot update completed in partnership with SMMA. Serving as the home for the college's gymnastics program, this renovation brings a host of improvements, including the installation of an in-ground foam pit system. The space also received new lighting, doors, and glazing, along with a fresh coat of paint, enhancing the facility's overall aesthetics and functionality.

“These projects are a testament to Springfield College's strong athletic programs, and we are honored to have played a role in bringing them to life,” said Jake Chace, Project Executive at Erland Construction. “We share the college’s dedication to excellence, and it’s been rewarding to help deliver spaces that will benefit both athletes and the community.”

The Bugbee Family Pavilion serves as a versatile space for both athletic and community activities, providing a gathering area for families to enjoy the game and participate in post-game tailgating. Additionally, it offers the college a space for team instruction, film review, meetings, and conferences. The Kresge Gymnasium renovation further elevates the training environment, improving safety and efficiency for Springfield's gymnastics program.

Craig Poisson, Springfield College’s Director of Athletics, expressed enthusiasm for the completion of the Bugbee Family Pavilion, as well as the gymnastics renovation, stating, “We are thrilled with the completion of both the Bugbee Family Pavilion and the improvements to Kresge Gymnasium. These projects will have a lasting positive impact on our campus, enhancing both our athletic programs and the overall college experience. The pavilion honors Coach Bugbee's legacy while providing a versatile space for our community to gather and celebrate. The updates to the multi-purpose Kresge Gymnasium will improve training and safety for our student-athletes and other members of the student body as well.  Both projects are integral to the continued growth and success of Springfield College Athletics, and we are grateful to the generosity of our donors who continue to help further elevate the college’s commitment to excellence.”

The completion of these projects marks Erland's seventh and eighth successful collaborations with Springfield College, reinforcing a strong, ongoing partnership built on shared values and a commitment to excellence in both athletics and education.
