Erland / Erland Receives Significant Accolades for Award-Winning Construction
Both the Campus Center Addition at Cotting School as well as the EMD Serono Horizon Building were submitted for several awards this year. Each was recognized for the effort put forth and tremendous accomplishments made along the way by their respective project teams. These prestigious awards are presented to construction managers and contractors that maintain a constant focus on meeting their clients' needs and set a high bar for craftsmanship, quality, and safety. Erland is honored to receive these awards and have the efforts of all involved commended by these respected industry organizations.

Cotting School is a private, non-profit school serving children ages 3-22 with special needs. The school provides an array of integrated services that foster academic achievement, skill development, and social-emotional maturity. Cotting School teamed with Erland and ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge to design and build a multi-purpose campus center addition, providing a venue for students to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence. The 25,000sf, 2-story addition houses a full, regulation-sized gymnasium, bowling alley, rock-climbing wall, and multiple activity spaces and classrooms. The facility was designed to meet the accessibility needs of the student population as well as ADA requirements. The building’s exterior consists of brick masonry and corrugated metal panels. Architectural glazing was utilized to take advantage of the daylight shone in this area.

EMD Serono selected Erland to construct a 149K SF mixed-use building on their growing campus. The addition of this amenity-focused, WELL Certified™ Platinum, and LEED Gold Certified building created a more vibrant workplace environment for EMD Serono’s exceptional employees. The new building includes lab and office space, a cafe/kitchen/servery, meeting rooms, and concourses. The office space highlights collaboration with its completely open layout. Each lab was designed with flexibility in mind; setting up the infrastructure to adapt to future research and development needs. The overall new environment will shape the advancement of specialty pharmaceuticals and patient care provided by EMD Serono. In addition, the building places an emphasis on sustainability. It was designed and constructed to meet LEED green building standards. The building is made up of 16.9% of sustainable materials and 89.09% of materials used to construct the facility were recycled.
